Certification Types

There are two categories in certification:
the PRODUCT SECTOR and FOOD PREMISE SECTOR.
Below explains the details of each sector.

PRODUCT SECTOR

The “Product Sector” category includes products that are fully or partially manufactured, processed or packed in processing plants or factories. It includes manufacturers, producers, distributors, traders, sub-contract manufacturers and re-packaging agents.

Under the Product Sector an applicant chooses one of the following schemes:

  1. Whole Plant Certification
    An applicant applies for all the products manufactured in a plant. All the products must be Halal certified by JHF.
  2. Selected Product Certification
    An applicant applies for Halal certification only for selected products or selected range of products.
JHF certifies following products under this sector:
  • Dairy products ( eg: Cheese, Ice cream, Milk powders, Butter, Yogurt, condense milk)
  • Non Alcoholic beverages (Eg: Soft drinks, fruit juices, fruit nectars, Ice tea, Ice coffee, flavored tea, energy drinks, squashes, syrups, smoothies, shakes, and etc.
  • Chocolates
  • Confectionaries, Jellies, candies and sweets
  • Biscuits, Crackers, Snacks and Wafers
  • Soy based products (Eg: Soy sauce, Soy milk, tofu, etc)
  • Bakery products (Eg: cakes, pastries, breads, buns, etc)
  • Value Added or Processed Meat products (Eg: sausages, meat balls, pepperoni, salami, burger meat, canned meat)
  • Value Added or Processed Meat products (Eg: sausages, meat balls, pepperoni, salami, burger meat, canned meat)
  • Value Added or Processed Seafood products (Eg: fish balls, canned fish, fish sauce, etc)
  • Value Added or Processed Fruits and Vegetable products (Eg: jams, pickles, cordials, sauces, fruit pulps/extract etc)
  • Processed cereal base products (cereal bars, corn flakes, etc)
  • Spices, Condiments, Seasonings and Vinegar
  • Noodles, Pasta, Spaghetti
  • Margarines, Shortening, Oils (Vegetable oil, palm oil, corn oil, sunflower oil, rice oil)
  • Black Tea, Green Tea, Flavored Tea
  • Food Additives (Food colors, Flavors, emulsifiers, stabilizers, flavor enhancers, etc)
  • Other processed food

FOOD PREMISE SECTOR

The Food Premise Sector includes menu items that are fully or partially cooked /processed/ packed and Food Premises refer to buildings and premises where food and beverage business is conducted including the food premise facilities such as restaurants, hotels, catering facilities, commercial kitchen, canteens, food outlets, food courts, food shops (sweet shop, , cafeterias, & eating establishment.

The certification under Food Premise Sector includes the following three categories/schemes and Applicant should select either of following certification based on their requirement before starting certification.

  1. Three Star Certification (All Menu Halal)
  2. Two Star Certification (Food Menu Only Halal)
  3. One Star Certification (Selected Menu Only Halal)

Three Star Certification
(All Menu Halal)

  • An applicant needs to apply for all the menu prepared within the premise.
  • Within the premises all types of menu should be Halal certified by JHF
  • Pork or pork derivatives MUST NOT BE stored, served or sold.
  • Alcoholic beverages MUST NOT BE stored, served or sold.
  • JHF certifies only the food and beverages prepared within the premise.

Two Star Certification
(Food Menu Only Halal)

  • Applicant should apply for all types of food menu which prepared within premise
  • Within the premises all types of menu should be Halal certified by JHF
  • Pork or pork derivatives MUST NOT BE stored/served/sold.
  • Alcoholic beverages could be used as beverages with strict guidelines in order to maintain zero contamination with items/dishes of Halal certified menu.
  • JHF will certify only food and beverages prepared within the premise except Alcoholic beverages.

One Star Certification
(Selected Menu Only Halal)

  • Applicant can apply for some selected types of menu which prepared within premise such as sea food Menu, Vegetarian Food Menu, etc.
  • Within the premises all types of meat should be Halal if Applicant selecting meat based Menu for Halal Certification.
  • Pork or pork derivatives MUST NOT BE stored/served/sold.
  • Alcoholic beverages could be used as beverages with strict guidelines in order to maintain zero contamination with items/dishes of Halal certified menu.
